Linseed Oil Market Report, September, 2013

For more than 185 years, the company Alberdingk Boley has been processing linseed oil, castor oil and its derivates into various products used in cosmetics, technical and pharmaceutical applications. For your information, please find below a report about the current situation of the world market for linseed oil.

Current development at the linseed oil market

Due to high seed prices and excellent weather conditions, the crop areas in the NIS-states have been extended. This leads to speculations about an expected positive crop availability und thus, the price level has dropped. At the moment, we are in a transition period between old and new crop.

Russia, being the largest linseed supplier, has a major influence on the market given its early harvest season. However, the initial highly positive sentiment about the expected price decreases has faded a little bit. Even though the crop is satisfactory, the volumes have not reached the degrees that have been expected earlier. The crop from Kazakhstan can be expected not before the end of September. It will probably be the end of November until the seed is prepared and shipped to Europe.

As of now, we cannot yet confirm the exact figures of the harvest since the weather has a big impact on the crop. Linseed out of Canada is of no more importance as the lots are not often shipped to the European market.

Our recommendation

At the moment, linseed oil is at a very attractive price level. However, the prices are going up slightly and we recommend that you cover your demand for the fourth quarter, 2013, and build up first positions for the first quarter, 2014. We are looking forward to receiving your inquiries.
