Sustainability in Action: Alberdingk Boley harnesses solar power 🌞

Following the successful launch of our 1.3-megawatt solar park in Leuna, it quickly became clear: we also want to make a tangible contribution to the energy transition at our Krefeld site and further reduce our COâ‚‚ footprint. Working closely with an interdisciplinary team of structural engineers, solar specialists, architects, roofers, building physicists, and insurers, the planning and implementation of our new photovoltaic system was completed within a year.
Since July, the system has been fully operational. The rooftop installation consists of 230 east-west-facing modules with a total capacity of 100 kWp. It generates around 90,000 kWh of electricity annually – enough to cover more than a quarter of the building’s energy demand. As a result, we are reducing our grid electricity consumption by around 25%. Surplus energy – particularly at weekends – is fed into the public grid and remunerated accordingly. With this investment, we are reaffirming our commitment to sustainable, future-proof operations across all locations.
Expanding our use of renewable energy is a key lever in achieving our climate targets – and a clear statement in support of responsible resource management. At the same time, increasing our energy independence helps strengthen the long-term economic resilience of our company. Every kilowatt hour of solar power brings us closer to our goal: operating as a responsible, forward-thinking business with a measurable contribution to climate protection.
We remain on course – for a future worth living.
